Hacking into a closed facebook group: The secrets behind this hack

"Wikimedia and Facebook have given Angolans free access to their websites, but not to the rest of the internet. So, naturally, Angolans have started hiding pirated movies and music in Wikipedia articles and linking to them on closed Facebook groups, creating a totally free and clandestine file sharing network in a country where mobile internet data is extremely expensive," writes Jason Koebler.

The iPhones, iPads, and occasional Apple Watch come from all over the world: the United States, Britain, Europe, South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Some hackers have dozens of targets at a time, according to screenshots of control panels shared in the group chat. The hackers are also global: one said in the chat they were in the Philippines, while a hacking tool developer indicated they were based in Eastern Europe.

ESET's investigation into the hacking crew's modus operandi and toolset has shed light on a new version of FlowCloud, which comes with the ability to record audio using a computer's microphone, monitor clipboard events, and control attached camera devices to take pictures.

Before getting into the list, do remember that many marketing groups require you to answer some simple questions before your request is approved, such as what you hope to get from joining the community.

Meta's head of security policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, said a handful of prominent Ukrainian journalists, military and other public figures were also targeted on Facebook by a hacking group known as Ghostwriter. Ghostwriter typically targets individuals through email, and then uses the compromised information to gain access to social media accounts.

The social media giant said Wednesday it would bankroll a new anti election-hacking group based within a think tank affiliated with Harvard University. The project, part of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and co-led by campaign managers for erstwhile presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney, will attempt to prevent external actors (looking at you, Russia) from digitally attacking, interfering with, or otherwise influencing elections.

The two types of Facebook Groups are the open and closed group. With the open group, you will be instantly accepted to the group. This will allow you to immediately start posting and responding to threads. Open groups typically do not have the same quality of users as closed groups. In addition, when you post or comment in an open group it will be seen by all of your friends.

For closed groups, you will need to apply to join and wait for an admin to approve you. The closed group is typically filled with quality members. The active admins do a great job of banning anyone that is posting inappropriate content, and it allows the group to grow and thrive. When you post or comment in a closed group, it is only visible in the news feed to members of that specific group. This means you can post as often as you want and not have to worry about everyone of your friends having their feeds bombarded with posts about your business.

There will be a small percentage of closed groups that are only open to people that have signed up to a course. For example, I paid a nice sum of money to be able to participate in the Podcasters Paradise group. The group description will usually say if it is a paid group.

It is important that you take your time and qualify every group before you join. The goal is not to join 300+ groups. It is to join the 20 to 50 groups that fall into your target audience and have off the charts member engagement.

With that in mind, not every closed group with 5000+ members is going to have great member engagement. Once you are approved, you need to go to the group page and look at the feed. Here are a few things that I look for in a feed.

I used the computer screensaver to highlight my logo in a picture that showed off my home podcast studio. I turned an old storage room in my house into a super hero themed recording studio. Almost 20% of the entire Facebook group liked this picture, and it allowed people to see the creative side of me.

Remember it is all about value. Do not rush into this type of Facebook Group post. Take your time and identify exactly what the group will find valuable. In addition to being valuable, it needs to be able to drive traffic to a blog post that will create email subscribers, podcast listeners, consult requests, and direct sales.

Facebook groups are ridiculously powerful if you know how to use them. Once you have primed the group and made your value post, then it is time to execute the post engagement strategy. This strategy requires you to stay tuned into the group on an hourly basis after your value post is made.

When I make a value post in a group, I keep the a tab open with my post while I work on other things. Each time I post, I set a 60 minute timer on my phone. The alarm goes off, I post a reply, and I do it all over again. This goes on throughout the day and into the evening.

In 2010, several Bollywood companies hired Aiplex Software to launch DDoS attacks on websites that did not respond to software takedown notices.[62] File sharing activists then created Operation Payback in September 2010 in retaliation.[62] The original plan was to attack Aiplex Software directly, but upon finding some hours before the planned DDoS that another individual had taken down the firm's website on their own, Operation Payback moved to launching attacks against the websites of copyright stringent organizations, law firms and other websites.[63] This grew into multiple DDoS attacks against anti-piracy groups and law firms.

On June 20, 2011, members of the group took down the websites of the Orlando, Florida Chamber of Commerce and inserted a message into the website of the Universal Orlando Resort requesting that users "boycott Orlando". The group did so in response to the arrests of members of Food Not Bombs for feeding the homeless in Lake Eola Park against city ordinances.[154] The group had planned and announced the attack on their IRC channel.[155][156] The group has vowed to take a different Orlando-related website offline every day, and have also targeted the re-election website of Mayor of Orlando Buddy Dyer and the Orlando International Airport. A member of the group left a Guy Fawkes mask outside of the mayor's home; the police are treating the picture taken of the mask as a threat against the mayor.[157] On July 11, the group took down the website of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orlando and the Rotary Club of Orlando.[158]

On June 28, 2011, Anonymous announced that within the next 24 hours, it would hack into the website of the Knesset, the legislature of Israel, and knock it offline. It was stated that the planned attacks were a response to alleged hacking attacks by Israeli intelligence such as the Stuxnet virus, a computer virus which allegedly was created by Israeli and U.S. intelligence and targeted the Iranian nuclear program.[159]

Following Interpol's announcement on February 28 that they made arrests of 25 suspected members of the hacking activist group Anonymous in Europe and South America, their site went down for a moment.[221]

In January 2013, the group attacked and defaced the United States Sentencing Commission website turning it into a game page repeatedly after which traffic to the website made it crash following the suicide of Reddit co-founder and activist Aaron Swartz. Swartz was accused of stealing materials from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with intent to distribute them freely.[269]

On April 2, 2013, a professional IT webzine BGR carried out an article stating that hacker group Anonymous has started the 'Operation Free Korea.' This calls for 'controversial leader Kim Jong-un [to] resign', 'install free democracy' 'abandon its nuclear ambitions' 'uncensored Internet access' etc. The hackers also proclaimed that if North Korea do not accede to their demand, they will wage "Cyber War."[273] On April 3, 2013, hacker group identifying itself as Anonymous claimed it had stolen all 15,000 user passwords as part of a cyberwar against the DPRK.[274] A few days later, Anonymous claimed to have hacked into the Uriminzokkiri main website, and the Twitter and Flickr pages representing the website.[275] 2ff7e9595c
